Diet for Pancreatitis April 28, 2008
Posted by in : General , add a commentPancreatitis is a health condition wherein the pancreas is inflamed. It can either be considered as acute pancreatitis or chronic pancreatitis. Because it the attack is just mild, you can still do something about your acute pancreatitis. However, if it is already chronic pancreatitis, it will be hard for you to treat your current condition unless you seek for a professional help. But those who recovered from pancreatitis as well as those who have acute pancreatitis, they have a recommended diet that must be maintained. You will read some of the advisable diet for pancreatitis that you may follow. This recommended diet for pancreatitis came from the experts and from the people who have recovered from pancreatitis.
Foods that are rich in fat must not be included in the diet for pancreatitis. Thirty grams is the maximum amount of fat that a person with a pancreatitis can have each meal. If possible, the 30 grams of fat is the amount that they must have for the whole day. This allows the pancreas to have lesser work when digesting your meal. Moreover, foods that are rich in fat may also trigger your pancreas to have another acute or chronic attack. Foods that are also rich in protein as well as carbohydrates must be included in your diet if you have or had pancreatitis.
If you are having a diet for pancreatitis, do not include foods that are sweet. This is important especially if the glucose on your blood is high. You must be aware that one of the related health conditions with pancreatitis is diabetes. Therefore, along with fatty foods, anything that is sweet must be avoided. You must do this in order to prevent another pancreatitis attack from happening and to avoid your current condition from getting worse.
Studies also show that eating products made from soybeans can prevent further damage to the pancreas. A diet for pancreatitis must have soybean products such as tofu and soy milk. This is because the extracts of the soybeans called PC or polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine. The polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine works as an antioxidant. Moreover, it has been proven in animal studies that polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine can prevent the worsening of the current condition of an inflamed pancreas.
Natural herbs can also be included in your diet for pancreatitis. One of the most recommended natural herbs that can be used against pancreatitis is the Emblica Officinalis also known as the Indian gooseberry. The Indian gooseberry is one kind of traditional Ayurvedic plant that is used by experts to treat disorders in the pancreas. The Indian gooseberry is also known as the plant that is very rich in Vitamin C. Other herbs that you can have along with your diet for pancreatitis include the ginger root, the licorice root, the Asian ginseng, cinnamon Chinese bark, and peony root. It can also be combined with other herbs such as jujube, bupleurum, Chinese skullcap, as well as the pinelliae tuber. Make sure that you maintain these recommended diets so that you no longer have to suffer the pains caused by pancreatitis.
