The disappearance of locally available inpatient mental health care is one example of the statewide difficulties communities are experiencing in meeting the needs of mentally ill patients. Until July 2007, residents in Fort Dodge and neighboring counties benefited from one of the few inpatient psychiatric units in the state, located at Trinity Regional Medical Center.
